Safety guidelines 🛡️
BookSetu connects strangers around a good cause. A few simple rules keep every handover safe — especially for younger students.
Never pay or accept money
Everything on BookSetu is 100% free or a like-for-like book exchange. If anyone asks for money, decline and report the listing immediately — they will be removed from the platform.
Meet in public, daytime places
Schools, libraries, society club houses, or busy markets are ideal. Avoid private homes for first-time exchanges.
Students under 14 — bring an adult
A parent, elder sibling, or teacher should always accompany younger students for handovers.
Your number stays private
Contact details are shared only after a donor accepts a request — never shown publicly on listings.
Check books before accepting
Flip through quickly at handover. Missing pages happen — it's okay to politely decline on the spot.
Report anything suspicious
Use the "Report listing" link on any book page, or write to us via the Contact page. Our volunteers review every report within 24 hours.
